How can a Certified Independent Health Coach help me achieve my wellness goals?
A blog series featuring the many faces of mental health.
After more than two decades in mental health I am still surprised by the different jobs my profession has. I also get asked often what therapy is, what kinds of therapy there are, what’s the difference between a counselor, a psychologist, a coach, a psychiatrist, a social worker, etc., what do mental health workers actually do, and where do mental health workers work?
I’ve held many different mental health jobs throughout my career, and now I’m going out and interviewing other mental health professionals to learn even more about what types of mental health care are out there so that you -whether you are seeking mental health services or are interested in a career in mental health- can get to know more about it, what resources are out there, and even get to know some of the amazing people doing this work.
Meet Jenny Switzer, a Certified Independent Health Coach in Olympia, WA.
What is your professional title and business name? And how does it serve people in Washington state?
I am a Certified Independent Health Coach and the founder of HealthWell Coaching. My mission is to help individuals take back control of their health, physically, emotionally, and mentally, by building lifelong habits that promote total well-being. I work with people throughout Washington and across the country to guide them toward sustainable health changes, confidence, and joy.
Where do you provide services?
I serve clients virtually, which allows me to support individuals not only across Washington State but also throughout the United States. Whether you’re in a rural town or a major city, I can walk alongside you on your health journey.
What kind of services do you provide? Any special populations or certifications?
As a Certified Health Coach, I specialize in evidence-informed, nutrition-focused lifestyle coaching. I work with clients to develop sustainable habits around food, movement, hydration, sleep, and mindset. In addition to general nutrition support, I hold a certification in providing guidance to individuals who are using GLP-1 weight loss medications. This ensures that all clients, regardless of how they choose to approach weight loss, receive the education, support, and strategies they need to thrive.
How does your service help people live mentally healthy lives?
My work goes far beyond food. Lasting weight loss and optimal health require more than a meal plan. They require transformation of the mind. I help my clients identify and overcome mental and emotional barriers that often hold them back: stress eating, self-doubt, perfectionism, fear of failure, and more. Together, we develop new, healthy ways to cope with life, so clients don’t just lose weight, they gain confidence, clarity, and peace of mind.
What kind of people do you love working with?
I love working with positive, purpose-driven people who are ready for change. Whether they’re struggling to feel like themselves again or they have a big goal and don’t know where to start, I’m passionate about helping them discover what’s possible. I especially love working with those who are ready to stop just surviving and finally start thriving.
What led you to this as a career?
My journey started from a place of personal transformation. I was once stuck in survival mode. Overweight, exhausted, and lacking joy. As I worked on my own health, I found deep healing and purpose. That experience inspired me to help others do the same. Becoming a health coach allowed me to turn my transformation into a mission: to help others find their light and live fully again.
What keeps you showing up for work every day?
The messages from my clients: “I feel like myself again.” “I never thought this was possible.” “You helped me save my life.” Seeing someone reclaim their energy, health, and hope is the most fulfilling part of my job. I show up because their lives are worth it.
What do you wish people knew about services with you?
Many people don’t realize that coaching is included in the cost of the nutrition program. There’s no extra fee for my support as it’s all part of the program, which typically costs less than most people already spend on groceries and eating out. In addition to personalized coaching, my clients gain access to an educational system that teaches the Habits of Health, along with a vibrant community of support. We focus on six key elements of health; healthy weight, healthy eating and hydration, healthy motion, healthy sleep, healthy surroundings, and a healthy mind because true transformation happens when you work on all parts of your life. We’re not just about the scale. We’re about helping people feel fully alive again. Live for themselves, their families, and generations to come.
What is your favorite way to take care of your mental health?
I love walking and hiking. It clears my mind and energizes my body. I also prioritize vacations and quiet time to read and reflect. These practices keep me grounded and joyful.
