Hannah Asher: ADHD & Executive Functioning Coaching

A blog series featuring the many faces of mental health.

After two decades in mental health I am still surprised by the different jobs my profession has. I also get asked often what therapy is, what kinds of therapy there are, what’s the difference between a counselor, a psychologist, a coach, a psychiatrist, a social worker, etc., what do mental health workers actually do, and where do mental health workers work?
I’ve held many different mental health jobs throughout my career, and now I’m going out and interviewing other mental health professionals to learn even more about what types of mental health care are out there so that you -whether you are seeking mental health services or are interested in a career in mental health- can get to know more about it, what resources are out there, and even get to know some of the amazing people doing this work.

Hannah Asher is an ADHD & Executive Functioning Coach in Seattle, WA

Meet Hannah Asher an Executive Functioning Coach for ADHD in Seattle, WA and online

What is your professional title and business name? And how does it serve people in Washington state?

I am an ADHD and Executive Functioning Coach, as well as the founder of Hannah Asher Coaching. I support motivated adults with ADHD and executive functioning challenges in harnessing and developing their strengths to better understand and target their challenges.

Where do you provide services?

Although I am based just north of Seattle, I primarily meet with clients online, so location is generally not a factor.

What kind of services do you provide? Any special populations or certifications?

My services include 1:1 and small group coaching, as well as workshops for professional teams, special interest groups, and students. I am also proud to offer coaching for parents, siblings, and/or spouses of loved ones with ADHD and executive functioning challenges. I am always excited to evolve and expand, so I always encourage people to share ideas or provide suggestions! I have extensive experience and training in supporting comorbidities with learning challenges (ie: dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia). I am particularly passionate about working with motivated adult women, especially those who were diagnosed as adults.

How does your service help people live mentally healthy lives?

I validate experiences and help clients gain control over their brains and behaviors. I integrate my decade of yoga and mindfulness training into my ADHD coaching work, which provides a holistic, grounding experience.

What kind of people do you love working with?

It is most important to me that my clients are excited about the potential for change and growth, and motivated to explore and experiment with different strategies and approaches. As a woman with ADHD who has been surrounded by (mostly late or undiagnosed) ADHD women my whole life, I get particularly energized by coaching professional women who were diagnosed after childhood. That being said, I love working with any and all identities!

What led you to this as a career?

From a young age, I recognized the power of explicitly teaching important skills in ways that felt approachable and helpful to a variety of learners. In one capacity or another, I have been a teacher for most of my life, and coaching enables me to continue my passion for education in a very specific, wonderful way.

What keeps you showing up for work every day?

The joy, relief, and sense of optimism I see growing in my clients makes it easy to do my work. It's not rocket science, but witnessing the positive changes in self-concept within my clients over time from making small alterations to their lives keeps me showing up.

What do you wish people knew about services with you?

More than anything, I wish people knew that this service serves everyone! You absolutely do not need an ADHD diagnosis, or even a suspected ADHD diagnosis, to benefit from coaching. We work on strategies to help with overwhelm, time and task management, communication, and so much more; these are not usually taught directly when we are in school, so it's up to the individual to glean and learn. I also want people to know that we have fun. I try to find humor in even frustrating or challenging things, in part because it helps remove the sense of importance it can hold over some people.

What is your favorite way to take care of your mental health?

Gosh, there are so many ways I love to take care of myself! Having been an elementary learning specialist for many years, I recognize the power of identifying and labeling how I'm feeling, and usually saying it out loud. I live a very active life, balancing my free time between running, yoga, strength training, and most importantly, horse-riding. The list could go on and on, but the last two ways I make sure to take care of my mental health are to invest time and attention into what I eat (whether it's healthy or simply wonderful!), and setting strong boundaries around my sleep.

How can people contact you to learn more about your services in Washington?

The very best way to learn more and contact me is by going to my website. That will have contact and scheduling information, as well as more in-depth descriptions of my services.
