Meet Angel Thomson, a licensed marriage and family therapist for couples, grief, and anxiety online in Washington State

What is your current role as a mental health professional in Washington?

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Associate and private practice owner

Where do you provide services?

Online across Washington State

What kind of services do you provide? Any special populations or certifications?

I specialize in anxiety, grief, and relationship therapy and work primarily with women and couples. In addition to individual and couples therapy, I also offer grief support groups and intensive couples workshops. I am a Certified Prepare Enrich Facilitator for premarital counseling, I have a level 1 certificate in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, and advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

How does your service help people live mentally healthy lives?

Supportive relationships help us heal and grow. It's my goal to support my clients in creating secure relationships with themselves and others.

What kind of people do you love working with?

I enjoy working with people who view therapy as an investment in themselves. People who want to feel confident in themselves and want to create loving, supportive relationships with those they care about.

Why did you decide to become a mental health professional?

I experienced a lot of loss across my life and at a young age I knew what it felt like to feel anxious and alone. No one deserves to be alone, and I felt like if there was a way that I could support people through the most painful and difficult times in their life, I want to do that.

What do you wish people knew about services with you?

Therapy with me goes beyond symptom management, I help my clients uncover the cause of their struggle and actively take steps that create real, long-term change. I won’t just help you cope, I will help you grow. My clients walk away from therapy with me feeling confident and secure, more connected in their relationships, and hopeful about the future.

What is your favorite way to take care of your mental health?

Mental, emotional, and physical health are all connected. I enjoy taking care of myself, I'm not sure that I have a favorite way as I find most things to be equally important. At this season of my life, I am focused on making new friends and learning how to cook healthy food that tastes delicious. New friends will help me feel more connected and supported, and also will make life more fun. Cooking healthy food at home will nourish my body and give my brain what it needs to stay sharp and balanced so I can keep doing all the things I'm passionate about, including running my practice.
